  • Scope and Content
Sir Coventry Payne has dropped title socially but kept it on documents etc. Addressing him personally because Sir Charles's solicitors won't communicate with him. Attacks Burke's [Peerage and Baronetage] entry stating Sir Peter succeeded to the title in consequence of a Decree of the Court of Chancery confirming the report finding him the eldest son born in wedlock of his late father Sir Gillies Payne Bart of Tempsford in Beds. Discusses his claim for copyhold of Allingworth Manor, Sussex. Burke omits to mention of the case in 1830.
