  • Title
Letter from John Hawkins to Lawrence Williams, Cursitor Street, London, about the non-payment of rent for Shefford Hardwick and the removal of crops by the purchasers at the auction on 25 August. Although the plaintiffs (Whitbread v Willoughby) have been willing to give 'every accommodation in our power', they cannot let the matter go beyond 14 October, when they intend to distrain for the year's rent unless it is paid by then. As Mr White has not paid his deposit money nor the £350 for the hay, it might be desirable to distrain in any case to prevent his becoming a larger debtor to the assignee.
