  • Scope and Content
John Edwards: a labourer employed by Mr Henry Waldock of Bleak Hall, in Biggleswade. On 13 October he was employed digging potatoes for Mr Waldock and putting them into sacks. As about 6 o’clock he left work leaving 4 sacks of potatoes covered over in the field. The next day he found the potatoes disturbed and he found about 3 bushels missing. He informed his master. He later identified the potatoes as the same kind produced by George Morley. Edwin Blunden: the Superintendent of Police at Biggleswade. On 14 October, the prisoner was brought to him by Constable Morley. He took the prisoners shoes and compared them to prints made in the field from which the potatoes were missing. The footmarks went from the field in the direction of Warren’s house. George Morley: on 14 October he went to Warren’s house and asked his wife if they had any potatoes. She said they had and took him into the barn and showed him about a bushel and a half. He apprehended Warren on the charge of stealing the potatoes.
