    William Rowney of Fenlake in the parish of Cardington – William Humfrey and James Mann came to him in the Red Lion Yard in St Paul Bedford. They had a dispute about a mare which Mann had charged to him. The mare was then at Fenlake. He gave no authority to Humfrey or Mann to fetch the mare. When he got home the mare was gone. James Rowney son of William Rowney – he lives with his father at Fenlake. Between 10 and 11am last Sunday William Humfrey came to him at his father’s house and asked for a halter. Humfrey said he had come for the little roan mare and his father had lent her to him. He fetched the halter, caught the mare and gave her to him, believing what he had said was true. Humfrey said nothing about Mr Mann. He does not know who has the mare now. He saw her in Mr Mann’s cart. William Humfrey of St Paul Bedford – he was ordered by Mr Mann the confectioner to fetch the mare. He told James Rowney that he was come for the roan mare for Mr Mann to go on a journey. He brought the mare and put her into Mr Mann’s stable. Mr Mann was there.
