  • Scope and Content
Arthur D Sadler, who was Mrs Blythe's father, was born at Holborn on 9 March 1889. He started work as a photographer in Bedford by 1915. A photographic postcard showing a group of soldiers exists (Ref: Z 160/935/1) postmarked 1915, and is stamped "Arthur D Sadler, photographer, Bedford". At this stage he appears to have only worked part-time as a photographer, appearing as a costs clerk at 107, Denmark Street in the 1922 directory. It is perhaps significant that Albert Clark, a photographer, lived next door at 105. In 1934 Sadler started work on his own account at 76, Pembroke Street and in c1940-43 moved to 82, Castle Road where he lived until his death on 4th August 1964. He was cremated at Bedford and a tablet was erected in his memory at Elstow Church.
