    Charles Neale of Riseley, labourer - he and his father were at a stall in Riseley buying some cakes. They bought 4d worth which he put into his pocket. He felt something at his pocket, put his hand in and caught the hand of the prisoner in his pocket. He held him until Thomas Cullen laid hold of him by the collar. It was about 12 o'clock on Saturday night. Thomas Henry Cullen, police constable of Dean - he was on duty at Riseley feast on Saturday night. He saw Neale buying some cakes which he put into his pocket. A few minutes after Neale had Laxton by the wrist. He took Laxton into custody. He searched Laxton and found in his pockets a quantity of bath cakes. Neale's sister said he should have had 15 cakes. He took 8 from Laxton and Neale had 7 in his hand. Laxton said it was the first time he had done it and would be the last. William Laxton - nothing to say.
