  • Scope and Content
He went to Mr Jordan's shop to buy a hat. He asked for a hat and was served by the lad. He was trying them on before he saw the caps. The lad pulled open the drawer and showed him the caps and he looked at some of them. He tried one more hat, the other young msn had hold of the caps and put some on the counter whilst he was reaching for a hat. He had been laughing and joking with the young chap. He had a cap doubled in his hand and without thinking put it in his pocket. Beacroft walked along the room and came to him and asked if he had taken a cap. Felks had drunk too much beer liquors and ale but was not what he would call drunk. He had had enough drink to not know what he was about or he would not have taken the cap.
