- Scope and ContentJohn Brown of St Paul Bedford, butcher - he holds some land int he parish of St Peter. He had been hay making during the last week and had employed Barrington. He had many hay forks in use, all branded with his initials JB. Yesterday Henry Harris brought the fork now produced to him and asked if he knew it. He recognised it as his fork. Harris told him who he bought it from. As a consequence he had Barrington arrested. When Barrington came and asked for work he did not to his knowledge have a fork with him. Henry Harris of St Cuthbert Bedford - he knows John Barrington. Last Monday 26 June he saw Barrington in Mr Francis's yard at the Fleur de Lis. Barrington had a fork with him. He asked what Barrington wanted for the fork and eventually bought it for sixpence. He asked whether the fork was "right" meaning had he come by it honestly or not. Barrington said it was and had his brand JB. From what he heard from one of Mr Brownn's men yesterday he took the fork to Mr Brown who owned it as his property.
