Statement of the accused - Edward Gooch

said that when he went into the bar on Thursday evening, Mr Yates had been there. Directly he saw Gooch, he had to go upstairs to shut the windows. He saw the cupboard door wide open and the till pushed nearer, so that anybody could reach it. He decided to take 3 shillings and sixpence which Mr Yates owed him.
