  • Scope and Content
I was born at Turvey, the place of my fathers settlement. I never was an apprentice. About 31 years ago I hired with Austin Shepherd at Newton in Buckinghamshire for a year at about fifty shillings wages. I served him the whole year. About twenty years ago I took a house and some lands of William Higgins for a year at Turvey for eighty pounds a year rent on which I went to reside and remained upon the farm for eighteen years upwards. Since I left there I never did any act whereby to gain a settlement. I have a wife named Susan and eight children - William Johnson aged about 17 years, Elizabeth aged 15 years, Jane aged 13 years, Robert aged 11 years, Ann aged 10 years, James aged 7 years, Eliza aged 4 years and Thomas aged 2 years.
