He is 61 years of age, was born at West Derby in the parish of Walton in the County of Lancaster. When he was 16 he bound himself apprentice to Lawrence Davies of West Derby, blacksmith by Indenture (nor produced) dated the 5th November 1772 for ther term of five years from the day of the date of the said Indenture. He served the whole of his apprenticeship at West Derby with his master. He has ever since worked as a journeyman in a variety of different places but has never done any other act whereby to gain a settlement in any other place to the best of his knowledge and belief. He was married at the parish church of St Paul about 23 years ago to Ann Knight by whom he had four children namely William aged 21, Mary aged 19, James aged 17 and Sarah who died twelve years since. His son William lived with this Examinant who taught him part of his trade as a blacksmith til he was about 14 years of age when he let him to Mr John Purser of Great Barford, blacksmith to work for him for two years. John Purser was a certificated man from the parish of Wootton. This Examinant was to find his son in clothes and the master was to find him in board, lodging, washing, mending and leather aprons during the said service. The master gave William Thompson one shilling as earnest and he served him the whole two years and afterwards worked as a journeyman with John Purser and Thomas Kilpin of Bedford. He enlisted into the Buckinghamshire Militia where he continued til the militia were disembodied about a twelvemonth ago. During the time William Thompson worked for Mr Kilpin he was married at St Paul to Mary Waller, by whom he has one daughter Ann aged 2 years.
