- Scope and ContentHe believes he is about 60 years of age. He was born in Abbotsley, County of Huntingdon where his father John was a parishioner. After living as a servant in various places about 35 years ago at Christmas Time he let himself to Robert Ford of Colmworth, farmer, to serveuntil Michaelmas and before Michaelmas he let himself again to Robert Ford to serve another year. He served that year and then continued in Mr Fords service as a labourer by the week for three years. About twenty years ago he let himself as a labourer by the week to Robert Thorn of Eaton Socon and continued in his service as a labourer four or five years. On leaving Mr Thorn he let himself to James Ingles of Bushmead in Eaton Socon at four shillings per week and his board. No time of service was named but he continued in this service without any other bargain seven years. When he wanted money he askd for it but was not paid by the week. On quitting Mr Ingles he worked with Thomas Stringer of Colmworth, farmer by the week about nine weeks. This was four years ago. About 5 or 6 weeks after Michaelmas that year William Toms of St John, Bedford, farmer came to him and asked him what he should give the Examinant to serve him as horsekeeper. It was agreed that the Examinant should serve Mr Toms as horsekeeper and should be paid four shillings a week and have his board. No time of shiring or service was fixed but the agreement was to continue as long as this examinant would stay. This examinant has lived with Toms under such hiring until the present time. When he wanted wages he asked for money and his master has paid what he required. Sometimes he has been paid a quarter of a years wages together. Does not know that he ever recieved a single weeks wages. There is now due to this examinatnt five pounds four shillings. His master always boarded him and lodged him in his house till this time when his master has gone away having been distrained upon for rent.
