- Scope and ContentThomas Clarke: on 4 November, on consequence of something he was told by his aunt, he looked and missed a book. It was the hymns of W Watts. He could identify the book and the leaf was turned down at 4th hymn of the 2nd book. He had had it in his hand the previous afternoon, as he had been reading it. Elizabeth Joyce: lodged at Leighton Buzzard. On 3 November the prisoner lodged at the same house as her. The prisoner went out the next morning and came back with a black book. It had gilt edges to the leaves. Dinah Schraeder: lived at Paddlehill in Houghton Regis. On 4 November she saw the prisoner as he came to her house and offered to sell her the book. It was Watts Psalms and Hymns. She bought it for 6 pence. She later sold the book to Joseph White. Joseph White: bought the book from Dinah Schraeder on 4 November. On 13 November Constable Murfin came to see him and asked about the book. He gave the book to Murfin.
