    Joseph Turvey, presently residing in the workhouse of the Leighton Buzzard Union - he believes he will be 24 years old about next Michaelmas. He believes he was born at Eaton Bray. At Lady Day 11 years ago he was hired by Mr James Pratt of Totternhoe, farmer, from that time until the following Michaelmas as horsekeeping boy at 1s a week with board and lodging. He served James Pratt until the following Michaelmas Day (11 October) and slept in the parish of Totternhoe. On 11 October he received 26s from James Pratt. Two or three days before 11 October James Pratt said he would hire him again for a year at the same wages. He continued in the service of James Pratt in the parish of Totternhoe and slept there until 11 October the next year (1832), when James Pratt paid him 52s and he left his service. Two or three days before he left the service of James Pratt he was hired by Mr Samuel Pratt to serve his sister Hannah Pratt in the parish of Totternhoe as horsekeeper boy for 12 months at 52s wages and board and lodging. The day before Michaelmas Day 1833 he was hired by Mr William Pratt of Totternhoe for a year from the next day as horse keeper boy during the winter and shepherd in the summer at £3 wages and board and lodging. He continued in his service until 11 October 1834 when he left. He has not done anything since to gain a settlement. He was married 2 years ago last December to Eliza Mead. He has one child named Sally aged 38 weeks. He is unable to support himself and his family . Thomas Bromley, governor of the Union Workhouse at Leighton Buzzard. The pauper Joseph Turvey and his wife and child are maintained in the workhouse at the expence of the township of Eggington. They were received into the workhouse on 12 April. The expense of their maintenance now amounts to £3 13s 6d.
