    William Haydon: the prisoner was employed by him between 13 September to 18 September. In consequence of information received he asked the prisoner where one of his diamonds was but he denied having it. He discharged the prisoner the same evening. The diamond produced was identified by him as his property. Henry Groom: apprentice to Mr Haydon. He last used the diamond on 17 September and then left it on the greenhouse light. The prisoner took it up and cut a piece of glass and said he would not mind giving half a sovereign for it and then he laid it own again. Groom was called away from the shop and did not return until the following morning. On returning he could not find the diamond and asked the prisoner about it, but he said he had not seen it. Alfred Atherton Murfin: in consequence of information received he went to the prisoner and found him in his bed. Asked about the diamond, he got out of bed, reached into his waistcoat and took out the diamond. Mr Haydon was also in the room and identified it as his property.
