- Scope and ContentI am 66 years of age or thereabouts. When I was 14 years of age I was apprenticed by the Trustees of the Bedford Charity to Samuel Bellamy of Potton, ropemaker, for seven years. I served him under that apprenticeship at Potton five years and a half when my master failed - then I was turned over by indentures to Joseph Sole of Olney in the County of Buckingham, ropemaker, to serve the remainder of my term. The original indenturesand turnover are destroyed. I kept them until they were worn out. I served Joseph Sole at Olney under the turnover during the remianing year and a half of the seven years of my original apprenticeship. I remember that the original indentures and turnover were signe by myself, my first master and the trustees. I received the usual benefaction of ten pounds from the Trustees when my time was out for a faithful service of my apprenticeship. I have done no act to my knowledge to gain any other settlement. I am now actually chargeable to the parish of St Paul, Bedford.
