  • Scope and Content
I was married on 8th May1828 at the parish church of St Paul, Bedford, to my late husband William Johnson. He died on 9th September 1831 in the parish of St Mary, Lambeth. He met with an injury in Grosvenor Place on 22nd August previous, from which he never recovered. During his illness he lodge near Vauxhall and was attended by the parish doctor and I received by way of relief from that parish eighteen pence or two shillings I cannot say which. About a week after my husbands death I received from Mr Cannon, one of the Guardians of St Mary Lambeth, a sovereign to bring me to Bedford and I reached Bedford about a week after my husbands funeral and from that timeI received from the parish officers of St Mary Lambeth an allowanceof three shillings per week until the Christmas following when it was increased to four shillings per week which was paid to me up to July 1836. I resided in St Paul, Bedford the whole of the time during which my weekly allowancewas so paid to me. I have two children by my late husband, William aged eight years who was born in St Mary Lambeth and baptised at the church of that parish about a month after his birth and Louisa aged six years who was born in the parish of St Paul, Bedford and baptised at the Methodist Chapel in the same parish when two years old. I am now actually chargeable to the parish of St Paul, Bedford.
