She went to bed to get out of the way. They still had some words. He then came upstairs and struck her with his fist and bruised her in several parts of her body. She was compelled to call out murder. She did not dare to go to bed with him but slept with the children. On Thursday morning he came down to breakfast and abused her for not destroying some bees that had attacked him. He said he would as sonn kill her as look at her. On his return from work last night he abused her for not making his dinner. She had been out gleaning all day and her little girls had taken his dinner to him but returned with it from [??]. He began throwing things in the house such as cups and saucers at her and threatened to kill her. Emily Thompson - she heard Joel Thompson on Wednesday night threaten to kill his wife, then a very great noise. Last night Elizabeth Thompson was crying and at the door of her house. Her hand was bleeding. Her husband was swearing dreadfully and threatening to kill her in less than 5 minutes. From his conduct to her previously he expected he would do her some grievous harm and therefore she went and fetched the constable. Joel Thompson - it is quite true what the women have said except that he never threatened to kill her.
