  • Scope and Content
Stated that her husband William Byaway had said that his place of birth was St. Peter’s, Bedford and that when aged about 14 years, he had been bound apprentice by Indenture for 7 years to John Partrins, Sundon, blacksmith, remaining with Partrins there for about 3 months. Partrins had then removed to Harlington, Byaway moving with him and remaining there for over 3 years. When 3½ years of the term of Byaway’s apprenticeship had been served, Partins had agreed with Mr. Haines, Wootton, that Byaway should work for the latter at a weekly wage of half a crown and his board. Byaway had then duly worked with Haines at Wootton, Partins receiving Byaway’s wages, until Haines agreed to Byaway’s working on the same terms with Harry Haines, Kempston. Byaway had remained with Harry Haines for upwards of 40 days, Partins receiving his wages. Byaway had then enlisted in the Bedfordshire Militia and Partrins had agreed, in return for the payment of 3 guineas, to cancel his Indenture. No other settlement to Catherine Byaway’s knowledge. Catherine had married Byaway at St. Cuthbert’s, and now had 2 children, both living with her at St. Paul’s: Mary Ann, aged 2 years and William, aged about 9 months.Removed by Orders.
