- Scope and ContentBorn at Stapleford, Notts, where father, Henry Sills, was a parishioner and a stocking weaver by trade. Was apprenticed to his uncle, Samuel Hooley, Stapleford, but did not serve the whole of this term, being bought out by his father. Enlisted as a soldier and volunteer in the Derbyshire Militia, 4 March 1793, in which he still served. Married Elizabeth Dudley, St. Paul’s, at St. Peter’s, 21 September 1799. No other settlement since leaving Stapleford.
