    Born at St. George’s, Hanover Square [London]. Bound apprentice about 1780, when aged nearly 12 years, by St. George’s parish to John Morgan, Bedford Bury, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Middx., pipemaker, until he should attain the age of 21 years. Served Morgan for 7 years and, on leaving him, worked with Mr. Green, Maidstone, Kent, for about 1 year and was then married. Was then removed, by Orders of Removal, to St. Martin-in-the-Fields and remained in the Workhouse for 2 or 3 months more, when his wife died. Smith then returned to his former master, Morgan, and served under his Indentures for about 6 months until he was about 21 years of age. Then left Morgan and worked subsequently as a journeyman in different places. No other settlement. Married Jane Peters at Maidstone, Kent, February 1793. One child: born 23 July 1797.
