- Scope and ContentBorn at St. Paul’s, where father William Earle was a parishioner. Was never bound apprentice. Let himself by the week to Henry Tomlinson, Shovel Court, Wood Street, Cheapside, City of London, butcher, about 1784/5 for 3d. per week and his board. After living there about 6 months, agreed with Tomlinson to continue working for him for 4/- per week and his board, and served his master a further 6 months. Then left Tomlinson’s service and served several other butchers by the week during the next 3 years, staying only a short while with each. Then let himself by the week to his first master’s son-in-law, Andrew Loffersham, Honey Lane Market, St. Mary-le-Bow, City of London, butcher, for 4/- per week and his board, serving him about 14 months. Then lived again by the week with other butchers, but only for a very short while with each. Then let himself by the week to Thomas Chaloner, 3 Trump Street, Honey Lane Market, butcher for 3/6d. per week and his board, serving him about a year and regularly receiving his wages weekly. No other settlement. Married Martha, late Martha Stevens, at St. Leonard’s, Shoreditch, 24 December 1792.
