- Scope and ContentBorn in Orange Street, Bloomsbury Square, London, where father resided, but Bowers unaware to which parish his father belonged. Let himself to Frances Jordan, St. Paul’s, chimney sweep, in March 1786 to serve her until Michaelmas, 1786 for 6d. per week, following which he let himself again to his mistress for a year at a [yearly] wage of 2 guineas, serving her throughout that period and receiving his wage accordingly. Continued in Frances Jordan’s service in St. Paul’s until the present. No other settlement. Married Mary, daughter of his mistress, at St. Paul’s 23 March 1792.
