- Scope and ContentBorn at St. Paul’s where father Joseph Jordan was a parishioner. Bound apprentice by Bedford Charity to William Thompson, Cardington, cordwainer, towards end of 1772 for 7 years. Served Thompson at Cardington about 1 year 6 months, when Thompson removed to Northill to work as journeyman to Mr. Waterfield, Northill, cordwainer. Served under Thompson at Northill about 1 year 6 months when he ran away and enlisted in the 14th Regiment of Foot. Thompson then applied to Mr. Hinde, Justice of the Peace to have Jordan restored as an apprentice, but Thompson subsequently informed Jordan that Mr. Hinde had said his Indentures were bad and could not therefore compel his return. Jordan continued serving in the Army and was discharged November 1791. Married Eleanor, spinster, at St. Paul’s, 1779. Three children: Elizabeth, aged about 12 years, apprenticed to William Wapley, St. Paul’s, labourer, and twins Maria and Isaac, aged about 7 months.
