    Born at St. Paul’s. Claimed that, according to his mother, father belonged to Wellingborough, Northants. Bound apprentice, not by Indenture, to James Wright, Wellingborough, cordwainer, in about 1780, for one year and thereafter from year to year. Was to receive for his service one shilling per week for first half year, 15 pence per week for second half year, two shilling per week the next year and to advance a shilling per week the next year. Worked for Wright 3 years, boarding and lodging at house of his aunts, Ruth and Susanna Ansell, Wellingborough, receiving his wages weekly. Subsequently ran away. No other settlement. Married Mary Ridge, spinster, at St. Paul’s, 12 October 1791. Son, Charles, aged about 19 weeks.
