- Scope and ContentJohn Joyce: on going down Newnham he met a man with corded trousers, white smock, black cap and a handkerchief ties around him neck in 2 bows. The man asked him to buy a coat. Joyce declined. They walked together towards Goldington and Joyce told him he would give him 3 pence for the coat. The man left and Joyce went to towards Goldington. The man went across the rook into Mr Thody's. Joyce put the coat across his arm and went on to seek work. Going up Ampthill Road he saw Harrington and asked him to but the coat for 4 pence. They agreed on 2 pence. Whilst at the Old George yard, Harrington and Tillyard came to him and told him it was a stolen coat. He told Tillyard he knew the man who sold it to him by sight but not by name.
