- Scope and ContentDetails of bequests: To Elizabeth Sheppard, daughter of nephew William Sheppard of Kempston, grocer, and William Parker, Bedford, grocer: -- 50 acres land in Great Barford, now in the occupation of Solomon Safford, and lately purchased of Mr John Willis, for the natural lives of said nephew William Sheppard and wife Judith, and the longer liver of them, upon special trust that during their joint lives they may take rents of the said land. Judith to receive 5s weekly for maintenance of herself and husband, but without being liable for his debts. After death of either, then 5s weekly to survivor. After death of both William and Judith, then property to William Sheppard, their son, and his lawful issue. For want of issue then to Elizabeth and her lawful issue. In default of issue, then one moiety to children of cousin Mary Parker (wife of said William Parker), equally between them. Other moiety to grandchildren of aunt, Mary Wise, equally to be divided between them. To said Elizabeth Sheppard and her lawful children: -- lands etc in Marston Moretaine. If she has no such issue then to William Sheppard (son of nephew William Sheppard) and lawful issue. In default of issue, then one moiety to children of Mary Parker and other to grandchildren of aunt. To said William Sheppard, son of said nephew: -- a trunk of linen marked for him -- 3 large silver spoons -- seal gold ring -- one large mourning ring 'which his mother has had in her keeping some years' To nephew Mr George Commander of Thatchbrook near Warwick: -- 6 guineas To nephew Seely Oldham: -- 3 guineas To nephew Samuel Oldham: -- 5 guineas To cousin Elizabeth Tilden and to cousin Mary Parker: -- 40s a piece To said William Parker: -- 6 guineas To Mr Robert Stoakes of Kempston: -- 40s May be lawful for Elizabeth Sheppard and William Parker to deduct their charges from profits of Great Barford estate. To maidservant 'living with me at my decease': -- 1 guinea and a suit of mourning clothes To said Elizabeth Sheppard: -- 2 silver spoons marked with letters MC and dated 1602 -- rest and residue of plate, rings, jewels, ready money, goods, chattels, personal estate etc Said Elizabeth Sheppard and William Parker apointed joint executors. If testator dies before Elizabeth is 21, then William Parker to receive rents etc of Marston Moretaine estate for her use until she is 21.
