  • Scope and Content
John Tutte - on Saturday 23 April he searched the lodgings of John Cook and Ann Sanders at Mrs Abraham's in the Butts Lane. He saw something on the table covered with a cloth, which he found was a 4 lb loaf (now produced). He asked Mrs Abraham where she got the loaf. She said she gave the money to Mrs Cook to fetch her a loaf on Friday morning. Mrs Cook said she bought the loaf from Mr Hawkins, but later said she bought it at Mr Bartram's on Friday. On searching the apartment occupied by John Cook he found a 4 lb loaf that had been cut (now produced) which Mrs Cook said she had bought at Mr Bartram's the day before along with Mrs Abraham's loaf. He then went to the lodging of Ann Taylor at Mrs Gaydon's in Chapel Lane. Ann Taylor was not at home. He asked Mrs Gaydon which was Ann Taylor's bread. She showed him a 2 lb loaf which Ann Taylor had since admitted to him to be hers (now produced). She also said her sister gave it to her last Tuesday morning. The 2 lb loaf was nearly new when he found it at Mrs Gaydon's. John Cook - he was not in Bartram's shop on Friday evening. Ann Taylor - she never said [sic] any bread of any kind. Ann Sanders - she never saw the door. She was never near it on Friday night.
