Scope and Content
I was born at Sharnbrook on 4th April 1820 and am the son of William Spencer of Sharnbrook, shoemaker, and Jane his wife, formerly Jane Neal, spinster, who were married about 30 years ago at the parish church at Sharnbrook. My father derived a settlement from his father William Spencer of Sharnbrook, labourer, who gained his settlement by hiring and service. My father was ill about 12 years ago and during his illness received relief from the parish officers of Sharnbrook. I have never lived out of the parish of Sharnbrook and have done no act to gain a settlement in my own right. I was married on the 10th January at the parish church of Sharnbrook to Maria Johnson of St Cuthbert, Bedford, spinster.
