    Robert Brett: on 2 April he left his oil skin overcoat in a field of his father occupation in Luton. He left it about 10 minutes to 11 in the morning in a sheep rack. The following morning it was gone. He gave the information to the police and he suspected his fathers shepherd. He asked the prisoner about the coat as soon as he missed it and the prisoner said he knew nothing of it. He went to the prisoner’s house with the constable and a coat was found upstairs there which he identified as his. Alfred Atherton Murfin: on 3 April he went with Brett to the prisoner’s house. He asked the prisoner about the coat and he seemed confused. The prisoner went upstairs and Murfin followed. From the bed furniture he took a coat. Murfin took it downstairs and it was identified by Brett.
