On Friday 22 April he and his family left home to attend the funeral of a relative at a distance from Dunstable. He left his brother William Bartram in charge of his house and shop. There was a quantity of bread in the shop on shelves and in a cupbaord. When he returned home he received information that a number of loaves were missing.
