Examination of Charles Morris of St Mary Bedford charged with stealing from his master John Evans

The flour they found upstairs was mixed flour. He bought some from Mr Hilyard and some from Mr Church. The flour in the other bag he bought from Mr Hilyard and had Hilyard's bag to put it in. He bought the bag taken from his pocket from Mr Evans the previous Tuesday and it has been in his pocket ever since. He filled the other bag from home to take to a cusomer of his in the new town. He is in the habit of selling bread and flour about the town. The sacks found on the beds are the sacks he had from Mr Hipwell at the time he dealt with him and was in the baking business. He nailed them on the bedstead himself about 2 weeks ago. He made the bedsteads himself. He does not know how he came to have the sack marked CRISP. He had it for years with other old sacks.
