- Scope and ContentI was 20 years of age last September. I am the son of George Newman of St Paul, Bedford postboy at the Swan Inn by Elizabeth his wife formerly Elizabeth Burton of Biddenham, singlewoman. My father died about two months before I was born and after his death my mother went to live at Biddnenham where I was born. She then returned to Bedford and lived in service. I have never heard to what parish my father belonged. I have done no act to gain a settlement in my own right. I was married on 12th October instant at the parish church of St Paul, Bedford to Jane Clarke of St Mary, Bedford, spinster.
