Settlement previous to marriage: (i) Thomas Bourne, Marston Wroxhill in parish of Marston Moreteyne, yeoman (ii) John Croker, Thomas Peirson (both of Kempston, yeomen). A marriage is shortly to take place between (i) and Edith Croker, spinster, daughter of John Croker. In consideration of the marriage and for the better maintenance of the said Edith (in case she shall outlive Thomas Bourne), and in lieu of dower, and of £100 paid to (i) by John Croker, and in consideration of 'good will and affection' etc, (i) grants, bargains, sells, aliens, enfeoffs and confirms to (ii) all that messuage in Marston Wroxhill where (i) now inhabits, and other property [Details given] Mark of (i). Details of other property: -- 10 closes pasture as lately divided, formerly 1 close called Wyndmill Hill (40 acres) being in Wroxhill and adjoining said messuage -- cottage in Wroxhill in the occupation of Thomas Martyn -- all houses, edifices, buildings, stables etc to be held by (ii) to uses as follows: to use of (i) and Edith Croker during their lives for jointure of said Edith and in bar of dower or thirds, and then to their heirs of both of them, or (in default) to the heirs of the survivor.
