    John Bowers of Sandy, yeoman - he has a potato pit at the back of his farm buildings. On Thursday 3 March the potatoes were safe. On the Saturday he found 5 to 6 bushels had been taken. He tracked the footsteps of a man with a tip on one shoe and none on the other to the outer fence of his yard where there were tracks of cart wheels. He had Charles Underwood apprehended on suspicion and found one of his shoes had a tip on it and the other had not. He went on to Bedford and saw John Woodward who gave him 2 potatoes out of a sack containing 2 or 3 bushels. He has no doubt they came from his pit as they were of a peculiar sort. There are no such potatoes growing anywhere near except his. John Woodward of Bedford, yeoman - on Friday 4 March Charles Underwood coame to his house in Bedford with 3 bushels of potatoes in a cart which he bought from him. On the Sunday morning he showed them to Mr Bowers and he took 2 of them away. William Breakwell of Sandy, police constable - on Saturday 5 March he apprehended Charles Underwood on suspicion of stealing potatoes. On the Monday he took Underwood before Mr Pym. In returning Underwood told him he had sold 3 bushels at one place in Bedford, 3 bushels at another, an 1/2 bushel at a third. Charles Underwood - he gleaned the potatoes. He put them into a hole until now then went and sold them.
