- Scope and ContentJohn Young of Dunstable, baker - on the previous evening he was sitting in his house in the High Street in Dunstable when he heard someone break the glass of his shop window. He got up to see and missed a 4 lb loaf of bread which stood in the shop window. He ran out into the street and saw the prisoner now calling himself John Smith making off. He ran after him and caught him. He found the loaf on the prisoner and asked why he broke his wondow. Smith said he did it for want as he had not had anything to eat all the day. John Smith - "I did wrong. I could not help it. I wanted something to eat."
