  • Scope and Content
I am about 27 years of age, was born as I have been informed and believe in Stagsden. My father John Warwick then resided at Stagsden but belonged to Ravensden. I lived with my father at Stagsden as part of his family until he became chargeable to that parish about eleven years ago last March, when he and his family including myself were removed by the Order of two Justices to the parish of Ravensden where the Overseers of that parish received and provided for us. And my father has resided there ever since. About a year and a half after we went to Ravensden I agreed with Mr Edward Berrill of St Cuthbert, Bedford to go apprentice to him for seven years. He said if I would come he would take me as an apprentice and teach me his trade if I would stop with him seven years. He was to find me clothes, board and lodging but not pay me anything. There were no Indentures nor any written agreement for the apprenticeship. I served him under our agreement in St Cuthbert, Bedford for the full term of seven years which expired in May 1835 during which I lodged in his house. I then made a fresh agreement and let myself to him as a journeyman at the wages of five shillings a week and my board, washing and lodging, and served that year, and have worked as a journeyman with different masters ever since. I have done no other act to gain a settlement,. I was married on Tuesday last, April 23rd at the New Meeting, Bedford to Ann Hind.
