- Scope and ContentGeorge Knight: whilst on duty at 3 o'clock in the morning he saw all of the accused going down an alley. Tansley had a bag on his back and Barker carried a basket. He asked Tansley what was in the bag. Tansley originally replied it was nothing to do with him, but after being asked if it was game, said that it was a few potatoes. Knight went to the gaslight and looked in the bag. He saw it contained about half a bushel of potatoes and the basket also contained potatoes and a cloth at the bottom. He asked how they had come by the, and they said they had bought then in peters beer shop in Meppleshall. Barker said he had taken the basket with him. Knight searched Tansley pocket and found a piece of wrapping, which he thought was made into a bag. He took the items to the police station where they were placed in the custody of the Inspector, Cocksedge.
