- Scope and ContentSarah Chettle: worked as housekeeper to Thomas Harris in Shelton. Ann Guess, the only maid servant, came to live there at Michaelmas. On 15 November, she missed a pair of scissors. On 24 November, she missed 2 gold studs and some other things. On 25 November, she charged Guess with having stolen them. Guess denied it and Chettle searched her box without Guess present. Chettle found a cap front, which was her belonging. She called guess to her and searched her pockets. She found the scissors she had lost, one of the gold studs, a black lace collar, a back silk scarf and a small silk neck tie, all belonging to her. She then searched Guess's bed and found a small side comb, which also belonged to her. Guess later confessed to taking them from Chettle's work box. William Walker: was given the found items by Chettle, and Ann Guess confessed to having taken them, but could not say why she had done so.
