  • Scope and Content
Thomas Andrews - he is a labourer at Wootton employed by Mr Thomas Hewlatt. He was working yesterday in a close called the Slipe and was using a stock-axe and spade. At 1pm he went to dinner. On his return at 2pm he missed his stock-axe. The axe now produced by police constable Walsh is his. Charles Walsh, police constable no.11 - between 7 and 8pm last night he was informed that Curtis was offering a stock-axe for sale. He saw him in the town of Ampthill with it on his shoulder. He asked Curtis whose it was - Curtis said "it is mine, do you want it". He said "yes and you too". Curtis claimed it was his own that he had bought from his father in the morning. Curtis said he had been at work with it at John Faulkner's of Marston stocking a hedge. He took Curtis to the superintendent, having reason to believe the axe was stolen. He made inquiries and found the owner was Thomas Andrews. Thomas Curtis - nothing to say.
