    Ezra Labrum, grocer at Leighton Buzzard - John Batchelor of Eggington, farmer, is a customer of his. He owed Batchelor money for butter and Batchelor keeps a running account with him for goods. He owed him about £10 before 25 September, when David Ellingham came to his shop and said he wanted a pound's worth of change for his master Mr Batchelor to pay his men. He supposed Ellingham was employed by Batchelor, who had been in the habit of sending his men for goods but not for money. He knew Ellingham to be an Eggington man. He gave Ellingham 20s in silver. On 28 September a boy came for some goods for Mr Batchelor and brough Mr Batchelor's check book. He entered the pound he had given to Ellingham and the goods he gave on the 28th. The book was not always sent when goods were sent for. On 4 October Ellingham came and asked for some shop goods for Mr Batchelor which he gave him. He did the same on 5th, 9th, 15th, 22nd and 26th October and on 5th November. On 9th and 15th October and 5th November he also asked for £1's worth of silver, and on 22nd and 26th October he asked for £2 worth of silver. On 5th November he sent his account to Mr Batchelor and was informed that Mr Batchelor had never sent Ellingham for goods or money from him. John Batchelor of Eggington, farmer - he has an account with Mr Labrum. Ellingham is not and never has been in his employ. He never sent Ellingham to Labrum for money or goods and never received any from him. He does not believe anyone of his famiy or on his premises ever did. He has a brother at Eggington, but he is not in business - the brother is only a labourer on his farm. He did not observe the £1 cash entry in his check book with Mr Labrum on 25 September until 2 or 3 days ago. David Ellingham - he fetched the money. He had no orders to fetch it. He has nothing else to say.
