- Scope and ContentI am about 20 years of age, was born in St Margarets, Leicester where my father then resided. When I was about 14 years of age I was placed apprentice to Archibald Winter of the hamlet of Brentwood in the parish of South Weald, County of Essex, cordwainer. I remained with him until 4th May 1834 when my master absconded and went to America. I then returned to my father who resided at Brentwood and remained with him about ten days and then left him to seek for work. I arrived in Bedford the fourth day after I left my father and have worked as a journeyman to several persons in this town up to the present time. I now reside at Kempston. My father left Brentwood about 6 months ago and is now residing at Kempston. I was married at St Pauls, Bedford 12 january instant to Eliza Coulston.
