- Scope and ContentI am about 20 years of age, was born in Ampthill. My father died when I was about two years of age when my mother removed to Houghton Conquest where she now resides. When I was 15 I was put out apprentice for four years with William Farnell of Ampthill, baker. I remained with him about 18 months when in consequence of some disagreement I went to my brother in law Joseph Wilson of Barton, baker. I remained with him about two months and was then assigned over to Edward Bithrey of St paul, Bedford, baker with whom I remained until about March 1834, when I went to london and let myself as a journeyman to Mr David Malden of Hollowell Street, Millbank, baker. I continued with him about three months and then returned to my mother at houghton where I worked as a journeyman to thomas Bunker, baker, until last February when I came to Bedford. I took a house in St Pauls at the rent of £13 per annum where I now reside. I was married on the 13th instant at St Paul to Ann Allen.
