- Scope and ContentOn the 24th March 1827 I was married at Ampthill by my then name of Ann James. My late husband died in the house in which I am now residing on 29th September last. I have one child by him namely Isaac Ebenezer born at Ampthill 1828. I September 1829 came to reside at Bedford in the house in which I now live which he hired of Mr Hyne, surgeon, by the year at the yearly rent of five pounds ten shillings. My husband during his life and I ave since his death continued to occupy the same house by the same rent which has been duly paid up to Christmas last from which time the rent has been reduced to five pounds. The rent was paid to Mr Wale, the agent of Mr Hyne. About 20th January 1832 my husband hired anothe house in the same row, but not adjoining, of Mr Hyne at the rate of six pounds for rent. He was to pay at that rate up to Old Lady Day (6th April) and then was to be a yearly tenant at the same rent. The house was taken on purpose to make us belong to Bedford. We occupied the house the whole year and paid all rent and other taxes for the year up to Lady Day 1833 when we gave the house up again. We used the second house as a scullery and lumber place, noone lived in the second house nor did we let off any part of it. We occupied the first house entirely ourselves and took in no lodgers. Not signed or dated.
