Examination of William Ennals of Kimbolton, relieving officer of St Neots Union within which is situated the parish of Dean - he has for the last 12 months relieved Hannah Chamberlain and her sister Mary Belcher, singlewoman, who now live at and are chargeable to the parish of Dean. Within the last few days he has been informed that Mary Belcher and Hannah Chamberlain are seized of an estate in joint tenancy at Souldrop as the sisters and heiresses at law of their late brother William Belcher who lived at Dean and died there about 37 years ago. He found they had regularly received the rent arising from this estate amounting to £4 p.a. Hannah Chamberlain and Mary Belcher are in very destitute circumstances. They have no house or dwelling, but had lately been living in a barn or outhouse in the parish of Dean in the occupation of William Maycock. Mary Belcher is about 72 years old. She is extremely ill, unable to give evidence as to her settlement and unable to be removed from her present situation. Hannah Chamberlain is about 74 years of age. Her husband died nearly 40 years ago. She is now a lunatic but not dangerous. Hannah Chamberlain and Mary Belcher have gained a settlement in the parish of Souldrop by virtue of the said estate.
