  • Scope and Content
    The Pioneer was written from a Christian Socialist viewpoint. It was edited by Mr. S.S. Metz with offices at 20 Lime Street, Bedford. Stewart S. Metz is listed in the 1962 Commercial Directory as living at 44 Kimbolton Road. He was there in 1967 but only C.M. Metz was living there in 1968. The Pioneer came out for 26 issues from 7 June 1950. Issue 9 dated 10 January-14 February 1951 was in a smaller format which had an additional supplement entitled Labour Section which was under the editorial control of the Bedford Constituency Labour Party. Contributors included W.T. Webb MP, E.L. Mallalieu MP for Brigg, 1948- , Aubrey Marshall living at various Bedfordshire addresses till at least 1976 and W. Ronald Dalzell, well known broadcaster and local lecturer. After the collapse of the "Pioneer", the Offices were taken over by the Mid Bedfordshire Constituency Labour Party
