    Apprenticeship indenture between W H Allen Son and Co., Queens Engineering Works, Bedford, and Wilfred Edward Routledge (who was 15 on 11 August 1911) of 4, Raleigh Street, Bedford, with the consent of his father, Thomas Edward Routledge, 4 Raleigh Street, Bedford, as a pattern maker for five years from 1st August1912, including among conditions “he shall not belong to any trade society or union”. Wages – 4s per week for first year,5s per week for second year, 6s per week for third year, 7s per week for fourth year and 8s per week for fifth year. Week – 54working hours working week hours. £5 to be paid if apprentice leaves the service of Allens before completing his apprenticeship. Seal of Allens and signatures of W.E. and T.E. Routledge 3 December 1912 with note “The within named apprentice Wilfred Edward Routledge has completed his apprenticeship with us to our entire satisfaction in every way. He spent 4 years and 9 months in his Majesty’s forces during the Great War which time was counted towards his apprenticeship on his return. He also spent a further period of 2 years continued training under the Government Interrupted Apprenticeship Scheme” 28th April 1921
