  • Scope and Content
I am now about 41 years of age. A few days before Old Michaelmas Day 1811 I let myself as general servant to Rev. Mr Michilee if Lavendon, County of Buckingham at the wages of five pounds a year. I entered into his service three days before Old Michaelmas Day and continued in his service at Lavendon until Old Michaelmas Day 1812 when I received the whole of my wages and left his service. I was absent a fortnight at the end of which I re let myself to him by the week only and continued to serve him at Lavendon by the week until Michaelmas 1813. From that time until my marriage I servced various masters by the week at Lavendon. In July 1814 I was married at Emberton Church to Mary Phillips by whom I have seven children viz. Samuel aged nineteen years, Mary Ann aged seventeen years, John aged fourteen years, Elizabeth aged twelve years, William aged seven years, Jason aged four years and Sarah Ann aged two years and a half, all of whom are now living with me as part of my family and have gained no settlements in their own rights. After my marriage I continued to reside at Lavendon until about six weeks ago when I came with my family to St Paul, Bedford, where I am now residing. I have myself done no act to gain any other settlement subsequent to my yearly hiring and service at Lavendon and I am now actually chargeable to the parish of St Paul.
