- Scope and ContentDetails given: Reciting the sale by Elizabeth Edwards of the Manor of Wroxhill to Robert Johnson, esquire, and the sale by him to William Brown. Reciting also the marriage of Elizabeth Brown with Joshua Wheeler of Hitchin, draper, and that she is since dead without issue. Reciting the will of Daniel Brown of 19 October 1768. Will proved by (iv) on 17 June 1774 in Prerogative Court of Canterbury. (i) have agreed to sell Manor etc as comprised in terms of 400 and 500 years to (v) for £800, and in order to prevent any question which might arise under will of William Brown whether Manor etc passed under first devise to Ann Ransom and the heirs of her body lawfully begotten with such remainders as therein mentioned, or under the general residuary bequest to daughters Elizabeth Wheeler and Ann Ransom, it has been agreed that (i) should levy fine. Also (ii) to discharge said purchased premises from all claims in respect of her annuity of £50, and (iii) as executor should join in the assignment in trust for (v). Now in consideration of £800 paid to (i) by (v) and also 10s a piece paid to (ii) and (iii), (i) assign to (v) Manor of Wroxhill etc; messuage, lands etc demised to Elizabeth Edwards for term of 400 years and later assigned to William Brown for remainder of said term, now in occupation of (v); lands etc (if any) which under the Marston Moretaine enclosure act may be allotted in lieu of any manorial rights, or lands; quit rents, dues etc in respect of messuages, lands etc holder of the said Manor or otherwise have since 11 November 1782 when last Court Baron was held, accrued and are now due and payable. To be held by (v) for remainder of terms of 400 years. Covenant by (i) to levy fine. Also in consideration of 5s paid to (iv), (i), (ii) and (iii) by (vi), (iv) at request of (i) and consent of (ii) and (iii) and appointment of (v) as executor of his late father, assign and (ii), (iii) and (i) confirm, to (vi) said Manor, messuage, lands etc for remainder of term of 500 years, in trust for (v). Also endorsed with: Assignment: (a) James Bayley, surgeon (b) George Exton (c) John Ransom, miller and mealman. Reciting that (a) has occasion for £800 which (c) has advanced to him at 5% interest and to secure repayment executed a Bond of even date in sum of £1600. Also (a) agreed to make further security by way of mortgage of certain estates in Marston Moretaine as hereinafter (and also in deed of even date made between (a) and George Meacher, his trustee, with (c)). Now in consideration of £800 paid to (a) by (c), (a) assigns to (c) Manor or Lordship, messuage, lands etc assigned to (a) by within written deed for remainder of term of 400 years, to be held by (c) for remainder of term of 400 years. Also (a) appoints (b) to stand possessed of Manor etc assigned to (b) in within written deed for residue of term of 500 years, in trust in first place for (c) to secure repayment of £800 and interest, and after repayment then in trust for (a).
