- Scope and ContentWilliam Burns, police constable of Potton - in May he was going on his rounds one night when he saw a man go into a field in the Potton. In about 1/4 hour he saw him come out again. He recognised him as William Mace. He had a warrant in his pocket to apprehend him for an assault. He told Mace, laid hold of him and apprehended him. Mace pushed the fork now produced against his side. It went through his clothes and pricked his skin. He got it out of Mace's hand and threw it away. Mace ran away. William Mace - the policeman took hold of him and said he should go along with him. He said he would not "unless he was a better man than I was". Burns then threw away his walking stick and said he would try that. He was holding the fork and Burns knocked it out of his hand. He never ran it into him nor offered to do so.
